Durham College recognizes a program-high 38 academic award winners

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College athletic department hosted the ninth annual academic luncheon on Friday, April 13th to celebrate the academic accomplishments of their student-athletes during the 2017-18 season.

This year the Lords had a program high 38 student-athletes recognized with OCAA All-Academic awards, beating the previous record of 28 set last year and in 2014.

The Bert Dejeet Memorial Scholastic Award was presented to Chris Carey (Men's Rugby – Business Administration – Operations Management) and Dekota Kirby (Women's Basketball – Sports Management) for having the top overall GPA for all student-athletes at Durham College.

Nicholas Axhorn (Men's Soccer – Recreation and Leisure), Erik Janssen (Men's Volleyball - Biomedical Engineering Technology) and Dekota Kirby (Women's Basketball – Sports Management) were each recognized with CCAA All-Academic awards. The CCAA award is prestigious as it recognizes excellence in academics and athletics. To achieve the honour, a student-athlete must be named to their respective provincial all-star team in a CCAA sport and must achieve honour roll status.

The men's rugby team, that was re-introduced as a varsity sport in 2017, won the top team GPA with 3.46 overall mark.
