Herb Kirkconnell
Inducted April 3rd, 1998
Herb Kirkconnell was born in Toronto in 1925 and began his career as an administrator at Durham College in 1967. The top level badminton player and former Canadian Champion, was one of the original staff hired by the College and as the head of Student Services his support and leadership led to the introduction of Intercollegiate Athletics at Durham College.
During his lengthy career at Durham, he was involved in many growth projects and suported all student activities. His support and vision in 1976 led to the landmark construction of the Athletic Complex, which opened its doors officially in 1977. The Athletic Centre remains today, on of the finest college athletic facilties in the country.
His commitment, dedication and loyality was always present throughout his 23 year career at Durham College and his direction was the founding reason behind the birth of DC Athletics.
