Romain and Wood named student-athletes of the week
OSHAWA, Ont. – Megan Romain (Ajax, Ont.) and Harrison Wood (Nebraska, U.S.) have been named the Durham College student-athletes of the week presented by Boston Pizza North Oshawa for the period ending Jan. 17.
Romain, a first-year digital photography major, had a season-high 32 assists in the Lords 3-1 victory on Wednesday night in Belleville against the Loyalist Lancers. On Saturday in Toronto she picked up 20 assists as the Lords swept the George Brown Huskies 3-0, her seventh match this season with 20 assists or more.
Wood, an electrical engineering student, earned a season-high 24 points on Wednesday in the Lords defeat of the Loyalist Lancers. He picked up 20 kills, two service aces and two blocks. His point and kill totals in the match were also season-highs for any men’s volleyball player in either category thus far this year. On Saturday in the team’s win over George Brown he earned two kills in the lone set he played.
Both volleyball teams return home Thursday, Jan. 21 to host the Trent Excalibur. The night gets underway with the women’s match at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s match at 8 p.m.
