Wellness Coaching

Wellness coaching is like personal training for your mental game. Sessions are guided conversation focused on exploration and action in the areas of life you care most about and want to prioritize. We look at your current and desired well-being, mindset, and goals, and help you move toward the life you want on your own terms.

Wellness coaching can help you find clarity and confidence in relationships, decision-making, and how you want to show up in your life. It’s also a space to build self-efficacy (trusting yourself to handle things), boundaries that protect your energy and holistic, sustainable self-care that supports performance. Coaching is not counselling, therapy, academic advising, or medical care, but it does support:

  • Interpersonal challenges (between teammates, classmates, partners)
  • Confidence, personal growth, and self-discovery
  • Stress management and coping tools
  • Decision-making and navigating big choices
  • Balancing athletic, academic, and life demands

Meet Heather Bickle – Athletic & Recreation Wellness Coach:

Heather is the Wellness Coach supporting Durham College students and Ontario Tech varsity athletes in both their well-being and performance. With a background in human development and psychology from McGill University, and advanced graduate studies in Positive Psychology, Coaching Psychology, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, Heather integrates evidence-based approaches from sport psychology, eco-therapy, and trauma-informed practice.

As a certified Forest Therapy Guide, she brings a holistic, nature-based lens to her work, helping students and athletes cultivate resilience, focus, and recovery both on and off the field, court, or classroom.

Her coaching often explores:

  • Emotional intelligence and self-awareness
  • Self-determination and motivation
  • Growth mindset and mental flexibility
  • Team dynamics and communication
  • Navigating stress, setbacks, and transitions

In 1:1 confidential sessions, Heather meets with student-athletes and students at no-cost for mental performance to:

  • Talk through concerns and challenges
  • Explore new perspectives and options
  • Co-create practical strategies and a path forward
  • Share relevant tools and resources
