Omelanchuk named Durham College athlete of the week
OSHAWA, Ont. – Caitlyn Omelanchuk (Whitby, Ont.) has been named the Durham College student-athlete of the week presented by Boston Pizza North Oshawa for the period ending Sept. 13.
On Saturday at Fanshawe College, Omelanchuk picked up a complete game shutout in the Lords first game of the season. The police foundations student allowed six hits over seven innings, while striking out nine batters. In the second game of the doubleheader against the Falcons she pitched one shutout inning in relief of Emma Greer. At the plate on Saturday she was 1-for-3 with a run and a walk in the opening game.
Sunday in the Lords opening game of their doubleheader against St. Clair she picked up her second victory of the weekend, pitching another complete game. Over seven innings she allowed three earned runs on five hits, while walking one and striking out four batters en route to the 4-3 win.
Omelanchuk and the Durham softball team is back in action this Friday for their first home doubleheader of the season against the Seneca Sting at 6 and 8 p.m.
