Alex Bianchi enters his third season as the head coach of the Durham Lords women’s soccer team. Bianchi’s technical training session and coaching experience are a continuing factor in the program’s growth.
The 2018 season saw the team post a 9-2-1 (W-L-D) regular season record. The second place finish in the eastern division gave the team an automatic entry into the OCAA championship. This was the second consecutive year that the Lords had qualified for the provincial tournament, with the team bettering their result from a year ago by capturing a bronze medal.
The podium result was the first for the Lords women's soccer team since 2009. Coach Bianchi also received some personal recognition as he was named the 2018 OCAA coach of the year.
Emphasis on structure and culture continue to be the corner stone of the team’s philosophy, “We want to play a high tempo game with play on the ground as much as possible and have our players express themselves when attacking,” comments Coach Bianchi.
Coach Bianchi and his wife Debbie reside in Whitby. He likes to stay active by either jogging or cycling.
Sunday Dinners are a big tradition at the Bianchi residence, with their three daughters, three son-in-laws and their three grandsons. The volume is always way up when everyone is visiting, and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
Apparently, Coach Bianchi already has his grandsons in Juventus gear.
