OSHAWA, Ont. – Matt McGirr (Brampton, Ont.) had 12 kills and five service aces to lead Durham College to a 3-0 win over Loyalist and the Lords sixth straight victory on Thursday night at home.
The fourth-year mechanical engineering student has missed a few games this season due to injury, but was unstoppable at the service line and at the net in the straight-set victory.
Durham opened with a 25-19 first-set win before a lopsided second set, which they took 25-13. In the third it was the Lancers that led late in the set as they looked to force a fourth, but the Lords bounced back to win the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.
Andrew Watson (Uxbridge, Ont.) led the team with three blocks, while adding eight kills and a service ace for the Lords.
With 10 kills, it was Adam Strickland leading the Loyalist at the net offensively. He also had the team's lone block in the match.
The Lords will now travel to Peterborough on Saturday to face the Trent Excalibur. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
