NORTH BAY, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team's conference opener ended up being marathon as they beat the Canadore Panthers in five sets on the road.
 
After dropping the opening set 25-18, Durham managed to respond in a big way taking the next two sets by scores of 25-11 and 25-19.
 
The fourth set was a nail biter as the teams were tied at 15-15 midway through. With the match on the line and the hometown crowd behind them, Canadore dug down deep to take the set 25-19.
 
Durham was down for the majority of the fifth set trailing 7-4 and 11-9. The Lords managed to rally tying the set at 13-13 followed by taking the next two points to win 15-13.
 
Bret Polfuss (Kitchener, Ont.) led the Lords offensive attack with 18 kills, four blocks and two aces while Jordan McFarlane (Oshawa, Ont.) had nine kills.
 
Splitting time between setting and outside hitter, Rory Langley (Uxbridge, Ont.) managed to hit double digits in points with eight kills and two blocks.
 
The Lords will now prepare for their 2016/17 home opener that will take place on Friday, Oct. 28 against the Algonquin Thunder. Durham will look for revenge on home court as the Thunder won the 2016 Adidas Cup, upsetting the Lords in the semifinals.
