BARRIE, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team will have to win one more match in order to lock up a spot in the OCAA championship.
Durham took their final regular season match 3-1 in Barrie over the Georgian Grizzlies on Wednesday night to finish with a 16-4 record and in a three-way tie with Seneca and Fleming for first place in the OCAA east division. Unfortunately for the Lords with Seneca as the championship host, only one spot was up for grabs and the Fleming Knights held the tiebreaker.
In the 3-1 win it was
Andrew Watson (Uxbridge, Ont.) that led the Lords with 13 kills, while adding two blocks.
Harrison Wood (Nebraska, U.S.) had 10 kills.
Matt McGirr (Brampton, Ont.) added up nine kills, two aces and 16 digs. At the net
Nick Coleman (Brooklin, Ont.) led with five blocks, while
Erik Janssen (Hampton, Ont.) and Watson had two apiece.
Georgian's offence was led by Jason Grimm and Matt Kerr who had 12 and 11 kills respectively. Defensively they each had two blocks, although Darien Haynes led the Grizzlies with three.
Liam Gray was his team's leader at the service line with three aces.
The Lords will now return home to face the Humber Hawks (10-8) on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre in one of the league's four qualifying matches. The winner of the match will advance to the OCAA championship being hosted Feb. 25-27 by the Seneca Sting.

• In the lone match between the two teams this season, an exhibition match at the Humber Cup on Oct. 4, the Lords fell 3-1.
• Durham won their last qualifying match 3-0 over the St. Clair Saints on Feb. 15, 2014.
• Last season the Lords locked up one of the two byes to the championship by finishing first place in the division.
