Durham extends winning run in final home game

OSHAWA, Ont – The Durham Lords women's soccer team came out victorious with a 5-0 win over the Loyalist Lancers in their final game of the season at Vaso's Field.

DC took an early lead in the fifth minute when Milinda Roblero (Pickering, Ont) found Natassha Hassenstein (Oshawa, Ont) in the box, who finished from close range.

Just 10 minutes later the Lords got a second from Vanessa Juras (Ajax, Ont) who was left unmarked at the back post and tapped home for the quick 2-0 lead.

Juras then picked up her second goal of the game in the 36th minute when she once again found the top corner from a free kick, clipping the crossbar on its way in for her sixth of the season.

On the stroke of halftime, the Lords scored a fourth goal courtesy Cory Lapointe (Whitby, Ont), as she tapped home her ninth of the season from close range to round out a great half for the hosts.

Durham came out strong in the second half, securing their fifth and final goal of the match in the 63rd minute when Roblero's curling effort found the top right corner for her eighth of the season.

Durham went on to clinch their sixth clean sheet and their third in a row, outscoring their opponents 21-1 during their current five game winning streak.

"I'm very happy that we continued our win streak tonight, we are heading in the right direction and hitting form at the right time," said Lapointe. "Our next game against Seneca will be a good final test before heading into the playoffs."

The Lords will travel to face the east leading Seneca Sting on Wednesday. Oct. 17 as they look to get top spot heading into the OCAA playoffs.
