Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Durham College Sports Information

Lords loss to Panthers puts more importance on final three matches

NORTH BAY, Ont. – Anywhere from fourth to ninth place – that's where the Durham College men's volleyball team could find themselves at the conclusion of the regular season.

Fighting for key points with the Canadore Panthers on Saturday, the Lords were on the losing end of a 3-2 match and currently sit tied with the Fleming Knights for fourth with three matches remaining this season.

The victory locked up third place for the Panthers and guarantees only one spot up for grabs for home court advantage for championship qualifying games as Georgian, George Brown and Canadore sit one to three on the table.

Coincidentally, the Knights and Lords face each other on Thursday night in Oshawa at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. Durham won the first meeting of the season 3-0, but in 2018 Fleming is 5-2, including a win over the first-place Georgian Grizzlies. The Lords are 2-5 in the New Year, but are expecting positive results at home against the Knights.

Leading the offence in Saturday's loss was Erik Janssen (Hampton, Ont.) with 19 kills, an ace and four blocks. With 24 points he now has 772 total in his time at Durham College. The current all-time points leader David McMann sits at 773 points.

Wesley Armstrong (Port Perry, Ont.) finished with seven kills and two aces, while Tyler Krabi (Stouffville, Ont.) had 12 kills and three blocks in the loss.

Thursday's tilt against the Knights will get underway at 8 p.m. at the CRWC. With it being the final home game for Durham, they will celebrate their graduating seniors with a brief ceremony as part of the night.
