Mancini walk off leads Lords over Hawks

OSHAWA, Ont. - In front of a great home crowd on Wednesday night, the Durham College women's softball team swept the visiting Humber Hawks at Durham Field.

Behind a two RBI double from Nicole Mancini (Toronto, Ont.) in the bottom of the seventh, the Lords walked off Game 1 with a 3-2 victory, before dispatching the visitors 3-1 in Game 2. The sweep of the Hawks avenges a doubleheader road loss from earlier in the season for DC, and now places them in great position for a postseason run. Durham currently sits in second place with a 13-5 record behind the first place St. Clair Saints, however, the Lords have four games on the OCAA leaders who have already played 22 games at 15-7 this season.

Action for Durham softball will continue this Friday, Oct. 4 as they welcome the Seneca Sting to Durham Field. The Lords previously swept the Sting in North York earlier this season by a combined 24-2 score. First pitch on Friday night is scheduled for 6 p.m.
  GAME 1
• Battling back from an early 2-0 deficit, Mancini played the hero with her clutch seventh inning hit to score game-winning runs. She finished the first game 1-for-3.
• Cashing in the Lords other run in the third inning was second-year catcher Kaleigh MacIntyre (Guelph, Ont.) who also finished 1-for-3 in the opening contest of the night.
GAME 2
• Durham scored all three of their runs over the first four innings, including two off the bat of second-year third base Courtney McKellar (Alvinston, Ont.), who went 2-for-3 in Game 2.
• Mancini opened the game with an RBI off a sacrifice bunt in the first inning, making it a three RBI night in total.
  GAME 1
Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) continued to cause trouble for opposing batters, allowing just five hits and one earned run in seven complete innings, while striking out four.
• Despite striking out seven Lords batters, Presly Buchanan was handed the loss following the seventh inning heroics.
GAME 2
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) was dominant in her fourth win of the season, striking out 12 Hawks over seven complete innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits.
• Megan Muir conceded all three runs for Humber in the loss over five innings of work.
  Overall Record: 14-7
Conference Record: 11-5

Next Game: Wednesday, Oct. 2 vs. Humber Hawks (6/8 p.m. - Durham Field)
