DC ends preseason in style

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's basketball team finished their grueling preseason schedule with a convincing 95-62 win over the visiting Niagara Knights on Wednesday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

The Lords end their exhibition season with a 5-4 record.

On Wednesday night, DC shot over 50 percent from the floor, while outrebounding the Knights 38-27. The efficiency on offence can be attributed to the effectiveness of the Lords rebounding, where they were able to either quickly bring down a defensive board and jump right into transition or grab a rebound of the offensive glass for a second chance point.

DC remains at the CRWC where they will host the Georgian Grizzlies next Friday, Oct. 18 for their regular season and home opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. with all the action set to be streamed on OCAA LIVE.
   • First-year forward Kendra Oliver (Ajax, Ont.) led the offence for the Lords with a game-high 25 points, shooting 10-for-18 from the field
• Three more Lords starters reached double-digits with Marie Stasiuk (Cobourg, Ont.), Andrea Zulich (Sudbury, Ont.), and Sierra Oliver (Ajax, Ont.) scoring 18, 15, and 13, respectively.
• With an impressive third quarter, Alannah Yates picked up a team-high 13 points for the Knights.
  • Kendra earned the double-double adding 13 rebounds to her evening, while also four steals and a block defensively.
• Stasiuk added seven rebounds and two steals, while Sierra was a facilitator with six assists, five rebounds, and three steals.
• Both Mackenzie Schroeder and Steenika Gilbert grabbed a team-high six rebounds for Niagara.
