Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Durham College Sports Information

Four-game win streak snapped

OSHAWA, Ont. - At the conclusion of a tight game, the Durham Lords women's soccer team had their four-game winning streak come to an end as they fell 2-0 at Vaso's Field on Saturday against the first place Algonquin Thunder.

The Thunder had the first chance in the game in the 11th minute when Becky Leese saw her effort go inches over the crossbar. Leese then had another chance shortly after, drawing close again for the visitors who had the better of the first half.

Algonquin eventually took the lead in the 38th minute courtesy of Mikaela Gualandris, scoring her fourth goal of the season.

It was nearly 2-0 for Algonquin just minutes into the second half, but Georgia Iliopoulos saw her effort sting the crossbar.

Durham tried hard to find a way back into the game heading into the final quarter of an hour, but Algonquin's defence was standing firm against the Lords, preventing numerous shots from reaching their target.

First-year striker Kaelin Wright (Ajax, Ont.) saw maybe the best chance late in the 79th minute for Durham, but she saw her shot drift just wide of the bottom right corner.

Algonquin added an insurance goal in the 86th minute when an Iliopoulos free kick went through the wall to make it 2-0.

Lords starting keeper Jenna King recorded two saves on the afternoon.

The Lords are back in action on Friday Oct. 4 on the road against the Centennial Colts. Kick-off is set for 6 p.m with the game being streamed on OCAA LIVE

Overall Record: 5-6-0 (W-L-D)
