OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords women's soccer team began their 2019 season on Saturday with a 3-0 loss at home to the Seneca.
Forward
Cory Lapointe (Whitby, Ont.) came close to opening to scoring in the opening minute for the Lords when her left-footed effort was goal-bound for the top left corner, but the Sting goalkeeper did well to deny the Lords' top scorer from last season.
Seneca got the first goal of the game in the eighth minute when Alessia De Silva had the ball cut back to her and found the top left corner with a powerful finish.
A second goal followed in the 22nd minute from Julianna Celamare who tapped home from close distance after a shot deflected right into her path.
Lapointe continued to be a threat up front for Durham and nearly saw herself get on the scoresheet in the 35th minute, but her shot was blocked on its way in from close range.
Seneca got a third goal late in the first half from Jordan Burke when she was unmarked at the back post and tapped home from the goal line.
Jenna King (Ajax, Ont.) made nine saves in the loss for the Lords, while Raven Edwards-Dowdall made two for the Sting.
