FREDERICTON, N.B. - The No. 6 nationally ranked Durham College men's volleyball team fell in straight sets to the No. 4 Capilano Blues on Thursday in a CCAA quarter-final matchup in Fredericton. Set scores for the match were 16-25, 19-25, 18-25.
Both teams were challenged by outside events as fans and spectators were barred from attending the event due to COVID-19 precautions, allowing only essential personal in the building for the championship following the morning session.
Despite the loss the Lords still have a chance at a national medal, with an opportunity for bronze still available as they enter the consolation bracket.
On the night, DC were unable to convert their attacks, scoring 30 kills on 90 total attempts over the three sets. A lot of that had to do with a strong defensive outing for Capilano, registering 34 digs to just 19 for the green and gold. Meanwhile, the Blues were efficient with their offence, finishing the match with a hitting percentage of .514.
Durham will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon when they face the host St. Thomas Tommies. The bronze quarter-final is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. with the action available
online.
