Durham College earn silver at 2022 OCAA Women's Softball Championship

LONDON, ON – The Durham Lords women's softball team finish their season with a silver medal at the 2022 OCAA Women's Softball Championship.

Jocelyn Shelton (Aylmer, ON) was off to a hot start as the third batter in the lineup. Following a single to left field, Shelton advanced to second on a passed ball and stole third to go into scoring position. Durham would register their third out before she could find her way to the plate.

The Lords threw the first three Saints batters out in order to pick up their sound defensive game where they left off in the bronze medal game.

St. Clair opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with a two-RBI double. The Saints added a third run in the following inning to take a 3-0 lead. In the top of the fifth inning, Durham made contact at the plate for the first time since the opening inning with a leadoff double hit by Abi Suffel (Whitby, ON).

The Saints extended their lead in the sixth inning with an RBI single to go up by four runs.

With the season on the line, Ryleigh Easton (Bowmanville, ON) got on base with a single but the Lords could not generate anymore offence and the St. Clair Saints were crowned 2022 OCAA Women's Softball champions – their first gold medal since 2014.

Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON) pitched the first 4.0 innings on the mound, followed by Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) who went for the last two.

During medal presentations following the game, Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, ON) was named an OCAA Championship All-Star. Glendinning finished championship weekend with three appearances on the mound including two starts and one relief visit. Glendinning pitched a total of 12.2 innings, striking out 25 batters and walking four. She earned two wins in the process.

The Lords go into the offseason with a medal for the eighth consecutive season. This is their 11th silver medal in program history and their 37th all-time OCAA championship medal.
