OSHAWA, ON – The Durham Lords women's soccer team finish fourth at the 2022 OCAA Women's Soccer Championship this weekend at Vaso's Field after falling 3-2 to the Niagara Knights in the bronze medal match.
For Niagara, this was the first time in their program history that they would play in a medal game. In the 9th minute of the match, Megan Morgado put the Knights ahead 1-0. OCAA women's soccer player of the year Sydney Sica scored less than three minutes later to put the Knights up by two.
Erika Bjorgum (Kingman, AB) scored early in the second half with a 48th minute goal assisted from Sage Thomas-Roberts (Toronto, ON). Only one minute later, Thomas-Roberts scored to tie the match, only four minutes into the second half and all of a sudden we had a whole new game.
Late in the match, Rylan Geatrix scored the winner in the 82nd minute to give the Knights their first OCAA medal in women's soccer. Durham finished fourth at the championship, their best result since winning a bronze medal in 2018.
Thomas-Roberts was named the player of the match for the Lords and earned a championship all-star award for their performance over the course of the championship.
With the weekend finished, the Lords head into the offseason and look ahead to the 2023-24 OCAA season.
