#5 Lords win seven in a row to end 2022

KINGSTON, ON – The #5 nationally ranked Durham Lords men's basketball team wrap up the calendar year on a seven game winning streak, defeating the St. Lawrence Surge 79-70.
 
Durham started the game off very hot, proving why they're on the national radar, outscoring the Surge 27-13 in the first 10 minutes on the road. Six different Lords put up points in the opening quarter, led by Mark Stoop (Oshawa, ON) who went 4-for-4 for nine points.

Things very much cooled off in the second quarter, scoring only 13 points while conceding 22 but the Lords still went into halftime up 40-35.

The second half was very close, with Durham outscoring the Surge 18-14 in the third quarter before matching each other with 21 points apiece in the fourth and final frame. Playing the entirety of the fourth quarter, Zeke Nickie (Toronto, ON) had 10 points and two rebounds in 12 minutes of play.

Adam Hosseini (Toronto, ON) led his squad in points with 21, in addition to eight rebounds, a steal, a block and an assist.

Stoop stood out with 17 points and 19 rebounds, posting the double-double. With 13 defensive rebounds, Stoop grabbed more boards than any player on either team had total rebounds.

Angelo Sarsonas (Scarborough, ON) finished the night with 15 points, ta pair of rebounds and an assist. Defensively, Stoop blocked two shots while Hosseini and Kanskie Simon (Pickering, ON) each blocked one.

Durham led St. Lawrence in field goal, three-point and free throw percentages. Most notably, the Lords finished the night shooting 54.1% from the field.

OCAA conference play starts up again in mid-January as the Lords make a trip to Loyalist College in Belleville on Friday, January 13, 2023 with tip-off at 6:00 PM. The next home game at the CRWC is on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 8:00 PM against the Georgian Grizzlies.
