WINDSOR, ON – The Durham Lords women's basketball team saw their season come to an end on Saturday afternoon following a 92-60 loss to the St. Clair Saints.
St. Clair started strong, jumping out to an early 9-0 lead, but a layup from
Taesia Pinnock 3:34 into the game put Durham on the board. The Saints had a 10-point lead through ten minutes of play, but Durham bounced back in the second quarter holding the Saints to only 15 points in the frame. This was enough to cut the deficit to seven and the Lords went into the halftime break only trailing 41-34.
The third quarter was the game changer with the hosts outscoring the Lords 33-10 to take a commanding 30-point lead, with St. Clair shooting 14-for-23 in the quarter.
Durham didn't let the scoreboard affect the fight in them, adding 16 more points in the fourth quarter but the hill was too large to climb as time expired.
Three Lords surpassed 10 points in the game with
Onika Leveridge (Scarborough, ON) scoring 15,
Taesia Pinnock (Pickering, ON) scoring 13 and
Jillian Thompson (Oshawa, ON) hit 11 points.
It was a team-effort in the rebounding department, with seven players grabbing two or more boards – led by Thompson with nine and
Marie Stasiuk (Cobourg, ON) with seven.
The Lords outscored St. Clair in the paint 40-30, but it was 13 made three point shots from the Saints that was the story of the game.
The work continues into the offseason for Durham as they now have their sights set on the 2022-23 season.
