OSHAWA, ON – The Durham Lords women's volleyball team will play for bronze on Thursday, following a loss in four sets to the Mohawk Mountaineers.
Durham and Mohawk kicked off the semi-finals of the 2022 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship, hosted by Durham College in Oshawa. It was a closer set than the score looked for most of the first. Following a timeout called by Mohawk with a 17-15 lead, they scored eight unanswered to take the first set 25-15.
The Lords bounced back to take the second set 25-19, making the match a best-of-three as both sides looked to pull ahead. That would be Mohawk in the third set, winning 25-14. With the season on the line, Durham battled as hard as you could ask for but ultimately fell short 25-21, losing the match 3-1.
Mia Hildebrandt (Winnipeg, MB) was named the Player of the Match for Durham, recording 11 kills, eight service aces and seven blocked shots for 19.0 points, making her the match leader from either team in points.
Amanda Larsen (Toronto, ON) contributed 10 blocks herself, with
Devyn Fraser (Uxbridge, ON) leading the way in digs with 14.
Also notably,
Katie Stewart (Gananoque, ON) and
Aislinn Pedersen (Hamilton, ON) were major contributors offensively with 33 and 21 total attack attempts, respectively.
Durham are back at it on Thursday as they will play the Canadore Panthers for the OCAA bronze medal.
