Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Durham College Sports Information

Season ends following loss at Georgian

OSHAWA, ON – The Durham Lords men's basketball season comes to an end in Barrie on Wednesday evening, falling short in an 82-75 loss against the Georgian Grizzlies.

In the first quarter, the Lords kept it relatively close for most of the frame – even leading for much of the first five minutes, but a hot run by the Grizzlies in the final five earned them a double-digit lead through 10 minutes.

Durham bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring Georgian 15-13 to cut the deficit to eight points, leaving Georgian with a 39-31 lead at the break.

RJ Stephenson (Markham, ON) posted eight points and a massive ten rebounds in the first half. Adam Hosseini (Toronto, ON) was the leader in points with 10, while Mark Stoop (Oshawa, ON) was lethal from the field shooting 4-for-5 going into halftime.

The second half was almost perfectly balanced, with Durham outscoring Georgian 44-43, but that balance came with a price as they were not able to chip away at the deficit enough to force the comeback. Durham tied the game at 69 a piece with 3:35 to go following a jump shot from Tyrique Walters (Brampton, ON), but the Grizzlies ended the game on a 13-6 run to finish off the Lords.

Five players hit double-digit points for the Lords in the game, with Stephenson and his 19-point, 16 rebound performance leading the way. Angelo Sarsonas (Toronto, ON) registered his season-high in points with 18.

That wraps up the season for the men's team and we look forward to seeing them back on the court in 2022-23!
