OSHAWA, Ont. - At Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium in Oshawa, Durham College solidified their third-place position in the OCAA standings with a sweep of the doubleheader against Centennial College, improving their record to 9-3. Centennial dropped to 4-7 after the losses. The Durham Lords now trail Humber College by just one game, as Humber sports a 9-1 record.
In game one, Durham struck first with a run in the first inning, but Centennial fought back with a three-run third inning to take the lead. Durham answered with two runs in the fourth and exploded with four runs in the fifth inning.
Zach Rivers was a standout, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while
Eddie Borutskie added three hits, two RBIs, and two stolen bases, providing a spark for the offense.
Centennial's Riley Briggs kept the game competitive, launching a home run and driving in two runs, but Durham's pitching held firm.
Charles Roy pitched six innings, allowing six earned runs but keeping Durham in the game. With the game on the line and the bases loaded in the top of the seventh,
Nick King was called upon to close. King struck out Centennial's Joshua Savoie, securing the win and earning the save in a dramatic finish.
In the second game, Durham's pitching shined, with
Connor Rodwin delivering five strong innings, allowing only one earned run on two hits while striking out three. Centennial fought back, scoring two runs in the third inning, but Durham's offense responded with timely hits.
Baylan MacKellar and
Griffin Oliver each had a run and two hits apiece. Evan Dunn was dominant coming into the game in relief, securing a 3-2 victory and earning his second save of the season.
Durham will now prepare for a road doubleheader at Labatt Park in London against Fanshawe College, who is struggling with a 2-8 record.
