OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords stormed back from a double-digit deficit in the final minute to stun the Seneca Sting 72–69 on opening night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
Fueled by relentless defence and clutch shooting in the final minutes, the Lords turned a game that once looked out of reach into an electric season-opening statement in front of a roaring home crowd.
John Dayo spearheaded the surge with a game-high 22 points in his debut, knocking down four three-pointers and adding six rebounds and five assists in a complete two-way performance.
Caleb Carter poured in 13 points, while Rudy Fakih provided a crucial spark off the bench with 11 points and three rebounds, including a pair of late buckets that helped swing the momentum.
Jasean Elliott was everywhere defensively, recording seven steals to go along with 10 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
Desson Spencer delivered a steady presence inside with 10 points and 10 boards, helping Durham win key battles in the paint and on second-chance opportunities.
The Lords outscored the Sting 23-15 in the fourth quarter to seal the win, closing the game on a relentless run that had the crowd on its feet until the final buzzer.
Durham shot 37.3 percent from the field but made timely plays when it mattered, forcing 20 turnovers and grabbing 19 offensive rebounds to overcome a cold shooting start.
The Lords held a brief ceremony before tip-off to unveil their newest banner, celebrating their 2025 OCAA Men's Basketball Championship win, and the finish helped make it an unforgettable night.
Durham are back at home this Friday, hosting the Fleming Phoenix at 7:00 PM.
