Men's volleyball return home with split result

OSHAWA, Ont. - On a weekend road trip to Barrie and North Bay, the Durham College men's volleyball team came home with a split result, defeating Georgian and falling to Canadore.

The Lords grinded out a five-set road win over the Georgian Grizzlies on Saturday afternoon in Barrie, taking the match 3-2 with scores of 23-25, 25-17, 25-20, 22-25, and 16-14. 

The back-and-forth battle saw the Lords' attack depth shine through late, as they closed out the decisive fifth set in extra points to secure the victory.

Will Doucet was a force at the net for Durham, finishing with 16 kills, three blocks, and a match-high 20 points while hitting an impressive .444. Jonas Felix added 12 kills on .545 efficiency to go with two blocks and three service aces for 17 total points. 

Setter Jalen Arias kept the offence in rhythm throughout the match, recording 42 assists and 13 digs.

Owen Lunn provided a strong two-way effort with five kills and four solo blocks, and Sidney Stuart chipped in four kills on .600 hitting. 

Defensively, the Lords totalled nine blocks as a team and 33 digs, holding Georgian to a .129 hitting percentage overall.

The Lords came up short on the road Sunday afternoon, falling in straight sets to the Canadore Panthers (21-25, 20-25, 22-25) in North Bay. 

Despite several strong individual efforts, the Lords couldn't sustain momentum long enough to swing the match in their favour.

Felix once again led the offensive push for Durham with eight kills, two aces, and a block for 11 total points. Arias kept the offence organized with 15 assists, adding two kills and five digs, while Cory Pharand turned in an efficient outing with six kills on a .500 hitting percentage to go with a solo block. Owen Lunn added four kills, two aces, and six points in total.

Defensively, the Lords posted six blocks as a team, with Sidney Stuart contributing a pair of solo stuffs and five players recording multiple digs. Ravi Hunter anchored the backcourt with five digs. 

The Lords hit the court again at Seneca College against the Sting on Wednesday, November 5 at 8:00 PM.
