Lords defeat Seawolves in national quarter-final

SAINT-LAURENT, Que. - With a dominant fourth-quarter performance, the Lords secured a 61-50 victory over the University of New Brunswick-Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves in the 2025 CCAA Men's Basketball National Championship quarter-final at Vanier College in Saint-Laurent, Quebec.

The Lords struggled to find offensive rhythm in the early going but maintained control through tenacious defence and timely shooting late in the afternoon.

Durham held a narrow 13-12 lead but trailed 29-24 going into halftime. The back-and-forth contest continued through the third frame, where the Lords outscored UNBSJ 14-10 to create some breathing room before exploding in the final quarter.

Durham's offence came alive in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Seawolves 23-11 to seal the victory.

Mark Stoop delivered a stellar performance, earning player of the game honours with 17 points while shooting 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. He also contributed nine rebounds, three assists, and two blocks, leading the Lords on both ends of the floor.

Miles Hall provided a crucial scoring punch with 16 points, knocking down three triples and adding four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Caleb Carter was another key contributor, finishing with 14. Jasean Elliott anchored the paint with 11 rebounds, five assists, and two blocks.

The Lords' defence was a difference-maker, racking up 10 blocks and 11 steals while forcing 16 UNBSJ turnovers. Javade Marne was a defensive force, tallying eight rebounds, three blocks, and two steals to stifle the Seawolves' attack.

With the victory, Durham extends its remarkable season and moves one step closer to a national title. The Lords now prepare for a highly anticipated semifinal matchup against Dynamiques de Brébeuf. Tip-off is set for 6:30 PM.
