Regular season closes out with a big win

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords closed out their regular season with an 81-63 win over the George Brown Huskies on Friday night in Oshawa, pulling away in the fourth quarter.

Durham led 20-13 after the opening quarter and carried a 35-29 advantage into halftime before extending the margin to 49-42 through three. 

A strong final frame, highlighted by improved shooting and defensive pressure, allowed the Lords to outscore the Huskies 32-21 in the fourth and secure the victory.

Romell Russell led Durham offensively, finishing with a team-high 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting, including five three-pointers. Caleb Carter added 15 points, knocking down two triples and going 7-of-8 from the free-throw line, while also contributing two steals. 

Rashane Smith posted 12 points and four rebounds and Jasean Elliott chipped in 11 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals in an all-around performance.

Javade Marne scored 10 points and hit a key three-pointer in the first quarter, while John Dayo contributed four points, five rebounds, four assists and two blocks, anchoring the defence in the paint. 

Matthew Iacono and Desson Spencer each added four points, with Spencer also providing energy off the bench on both ends of the floor.

As a team, Durham shot 43.5% from the field and recorded 15 assists on 30 made baskets. The Lords also forced 22 turnovers, converting them into 24 points, and held a 36-28 advantage in points in the paint. Durham's bench contributed 40 points, providing consistent production throughout the night.

The Lords finish their regular season campaign with a 14-4 record and await the results of the Centennial vs. Seneca and Georgian vs. Fleming games on Saturday to find out their seed.

Next weekend will be the 2026 OCAA Men's Basketball Championship qualifiers and the Lords will host an opponent, to be determined, on Saturday, February 21 at 4 p.m.
