PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - The Durham Lords and Fleming Phoenix traded momentum throughout Wednesday night's OCAA matchup, with Durham ultimately doing enough down the stretch to secure a 91-85 win at the Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre.
Durham came out with pace and confidence in the opening half, moving the ball well and finding quality looks from the perimeter.
The Lords leaned on their shooting depth to take a slim 43-42 lead into the break, with both teams trading baskets throughout a tightly contested first 20 minutes.
While Fleming remained consistent in their game with 43 second half points, the Lords further improved their game with 48 more points scored to extend their lead to six and secure the win.
Caleb Carter led the way offensively for Durham, finishing with a game-high 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting, including five three-pointers.
Rashane Smith delivered a strong all-around performance, posting 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals in 32 minutes.
Jasean Elliott added 14 points and six rebounds, while Javade Marne contributed 11 points, four boards and three steals.
Rudy Fakih and Matthew Iacono each chipped in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively, helping balance the scoring attack.
Durham shot 47.4% from the field and 38.9% from beyond the arc, with six players in double-digit territory.
Defensively, the Lords forced 22 Fleming turnovers and recorded 10 steals, using their pressure to generate transition opportunities. While free-throw shooting proved challenging on the night, Durham's efficiency from the floor and depth across the lineup helped offset that margin.
The Lords head to Belleville on Saturday, February 7 to take on the Loyalist Lancers at 3 p.m.
