John Milton

  • Title
    Goalkeeper Coach

Milton was born in Bristol, England and played competitively as a goalkeeper with Potterswood FC and Bristol Boys FC until emigrating to Canada in 1977. In Canada he played with the Pickering Soccer Club and Scarborough Maple Leafs prior to attending the University of Waterloo where he received an honours degree in Human Kinetics and Leisure Studies.

With a strong desire to give back to the game, he started coaching house-league with Pickering Village Soccer Club in 2000, then all-star with Ajax Soccer Club, and for the next 14 years with Ajax FC as both assistant coach and goalkeeper coach with the AFC Boys 1996 and Girls 1999. During this time he was fortunate enough to develop keepers who played at the district, regional, provincial, national, international and NCAA level.

Outside Milton’s passion for the game, he has an active full-time role in the provincial and national sport and recreation profession, serving for the last 30 years as Chief Administrative Officer for the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association and serves as representative to the Canadian Recreation Facilities Network.

Milton is married to wife Sharon, who works in the municipal recreation profession, and has two son’s Scott and Daniel. Scott attended York University and works in the performing arts profession, Daniel is a graduate of Southern New Hampshire University, where he played as a goalkeeper on a soccer scholarship and is currently a goalkeeper coach and Masters student at Franklin Pierce University.
