Bennett and Broad named athletes of the week
OSHAWA, Ont. – Rashaun Bennett (Scarborough, Ont.) and Jessica Broad (Courtice, Ont.) have been named the Durham College athletes of the week presented by Boston Pizza North Oshawa for the period ending Nov. 29.
Broad, an event management student, led the women’s volleyball team in each of their victories this week. On Wednesday against the Seneca Sting she had 10 kills, two blocks and four service aces, which moved her to second in the Lords’ history books with 419 kills. She passed Erin Smith, who previously held second overall with 417.
With her 16 points, Broad also passed Karlene Riseborough-Barnes to sit third overall in the Durham College point’s category at 546.
On Sunday at home she had a game-high seven kills, with a block, in her team’s 3-0 victory over the La Cité Coyotes.
The women’s volleyball team will wrap up the first half of the season at home on Thursday, Dec. 3 when the Georgian Grizzlies come to town. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Bennett, a first-year protection, security and investigation student, had a season-high 27 points and game-high nine rebounds on Friday night in men’s basketball action as the Lords defeated the Centennial Colts 71-54 in Scarborough. This was the lone game of the week, as the men’s basketball team wraps up the first half of their season on Dec. 2 in Kingston against the St. Lawrence Vikings.
