OSHAWA, Ont. – With just one game remaining before the holiday break, the Durham College men's volleyball team is back in the win column after defeating the La Cité Coyotes 3-1 on Sunday.
The Lords had a slow start as they trailed by four early, 10-6, but midway through the set would tie make it even at 15-15. After watching Durham take a 19-16 lead, La Cité bounced back to tie the set 20-20.
The Coyotes would take the lead again and eventually the set, 25-22.
In a similar situation in the second set, tied 19-19, Durham scored four straight points before the Coyotes. The Lords led the set 23-20 and would finish it with a 25-20.
Durham was more settled in the third and fourth sets as they led the entire way, picking up a 25-21 win in the third and 25-14 victory in the fourth to take the match 3-1.
Andrew Watson (Uxbridge, Ont.) led the Lords with 13 kills, while
Matt McGirr (Brampton, Ont.) had 10 kills, four service aces and a block.
Nick Coleman (Brooklin, Ont.) had six blocks and two service aces in Durham's win.
Power hitter Michel Leblanc had a game-high 15 kills to lead the Coyotes, while also adding an ace and a block.
The Lords will now host the Georgian Grizzlies Thursday, Dec. 3 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre at 8 p.m. This is the final game of the first half for Durham.
