OSHAWA, Ont. – This year the Durham Lords are proud to recognize a new program-high 47 student-athletes with all-academic honours, surpassing the previous record of 44 which was set last year.
The Bert Dejeet Memorial Scholastic Award is an annual honour handed out to a male and female student-athlete for having the top overall GPA among all student-athletes at Durham College. This year the male honour was presented to
Lucas Pichl (golf/men's volleyball – advanced law enforcement & investigation), while
Kaylah Moehling (women's rugby – emergency service fundamentals), and
Courtney McKellar (women's softball – biotechnology advanced) tied for the honour among all female student-athletes.
Jessica Joensen (women's volleyball – business fundamentals),
Cassidy Nicholson-Clarke (women's volleyball – law clerk advanced), and
Allyson Terwillegar (women's volleyball – interactive media design) were each recognized with CCAA Academic All-Canadian honours. The CCAA award is prestigious as it recognizes excellence in both academics and athletics. To achieve the honour, a student-athlete must be named to their respective provincial all-star team in a CCAA sport and achieve honour roll status.
The women's volleyball team as a collective finished with a 3.85 GPA, winning the top team GPA award. This is the second time women's volleyball has won this award since its introduction in 2015-16.
