OSHAWA, ON – The Durham Lords improve to 14-6 on the season with a 9-4 win over the Conestoga Condors to end the weekend.
A wild pitch in the second inning allowed Ryleigh Easton (Bowmanville, ON) to score, becoming the fourth player on the team to score double-digit runs this season. With Kylie Schofield (Oshawa, ON) on base, Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) came to the plate and hit to the shortstop, giving Schofield enough time to reach home and double the lead.
With the bases loaded, Conestoga hit a grand slam in the fourth inning to not only get on the scoreboard but also take a 4-2 lead over the Lords.
Durham had a lot left in their bats, particularly in the fifth inning. Natalie Clemens (Marmora, ON), Grace Hearns (Napanee, ON), Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON) and Easton all scored in a four-run inning for the Lords, taking a 7-4 lead through five frames.
Hearns would be back at the plate in the sixth inning and hit a double to send Clemens scoring. Williamson singled in the seventh and Brynne Naworynski (Aurora, ON) to give the Lords a five-run lead, and eventually the 9-4 win.
Redick and Oke split time on the mound, pitching 4.0 and 3.0 innings, respectively.
