BARRIE, ON - The Durham Lords men's basketball team opened their 2022-23 OCAA season on Wednesday at Georgian, defeating the Grizzlies 81-74.
Georgian created an early lead in their home opener, taking a five-point 20-15 lead through the opening quarter. Adam Hosseini (Toronto, ON) got hot from beyond the arc in the second quarter, scoring 10 points and going 2-for-3 from the three as part of a 27-point quarter for the Lords that sent them into halftime up 42-40.
The Lords had an opportunity to extend their lead in the third quarter and took it. Hosseini shot 3-for-3 on field goals in the quarter and Glodi Kashala (Brampton, ON) took advantage of three free throw opportunities, making all three.
In the fourth quarter, the hosts outscored Durham 19-17 but it wasn't enough to mount a comeback as the Lords went on to win their first game of the season 81-74.
Hosseini had a 28-point showing, shooting 11-for-14 with two rebounds, two steals ad an assist. Oshane Taylor-Douglas (Scarborough, ON) posted a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds, along with six assists.
In his first game as a member of the Lords, Kanskie Simon (Pickering, ON) was a force with 15 points and 16 rebounds. 12 boards came on the defensive side of the ball, giving his squad a chance to take possession back into their hands.
The Lords are back on the road on Saturday with a trip to Scarborough for their first meeting of the season against the Centennial Colts. Durham will play their home opener on Tuesday, November 1 against the George Brown Huskies at 8:00 PM.
