OSHAWA, ON – The Durham Lords men's rugby team will host the 2022 OCAA Men's Rugby gold medal match next weekend after defeating the Sheridan Bruins 52-8 in the semifinals on Saturday.
Jackson MacIntosh (Brooklin, ON) and Brendyn Beck (Port Hope, ON) combined for three tries to kick off the game, with Tyler Janes (Pickering, ON) kicking a successful conversion on all three to take an early 21-0 lead. Brock Dunn (Ashburn, ON) earned his way on the score sheet to extend the lead to 26-0.
Before halftime, Patrick Lynch (Oshawa, ON) scored a try and MacIntosh scored his third of the day to give the Lords a 38-0 lead heading into the break.
A pair of tries scored by Beck and Josh Dusome (Oshawa, ON) gave the Lords their largest lead of the game with a 52-0 lead.
Sheridan battled hard until the end and showed signs of life with three-point kick to ruin the shutout, followed up with a try to reach double digits.
The Lords await an opponent as the St. Lawrence Surge and Georgian Grizzlies play in the second semifinal at 1:00 PM on Sunday. As the #1 seed, the Durham College will host the gold medal match at Thompson Rugby Park next weekend. Exact date and time TBD.
