OSHAWA, Ont. - Durham College men's rugby has a new name to watch this season as Chase Gallacher signs on with the Lords.

Gallacher grew up just minutes from campus and has already made a name for himself in Ontario rugby circles.

"Chase has already put himself in some high-level rugby environments, but what impressed us most is that he's still hungry to learn. He's a player who competes with confidence, backs his teammates and isn't afraid to take on responsibility," said Head Coach John Watkins. "Having someone with his experience choose to stay home and represent Durham says a lot about where this program is headed."

The Brooklin High School product served as team captain and competed for the Ontario Blues, earning a silver medal at the Vancouver Sevens — an experience he calls his most memorable to date. He has also suited up for TRU 7's, TRU 15's, Ontario Blues 15's, and the Ajax Wanderers, and he was invited to the U18 Canada National Development Camp in August 2026.

For Gallacher, choosing Durham was about fit — both in the classroom and on the field.

"Staying local, excellent trades programs, and a great rugby program. I'm excited to learn from the respected coaches that will help me develop as a rugby player," he said. He will enrol in the Electrical Engineering Technician program while suiting up for the Lords.

At 6 feet tall and comfortable at centre, wing, or fullback, Gallacher adds versatility and a winning mentality to the roster.

With experience at the provincial level and a leadership role in high school, he arrives ready to contribute on day one. The coaching staff sees him as a strong addition who can impact both attack and defence, and his track record suggests he'll embrace the challenge.
