PETERBOROUGH, ON – In the highest scoring game of the 2022-23 OCAA men's basketball season to date, the Durham Lords picked up a 110-101 win on the road against the Fleming Knights.
A 36-point opening quarter for the hosts put Fleming ahead by 12, but Durham's leadership group were quickly able to correct that defensive setback after outscoring the Knights 29-14 in the second quarter. With a change in fortunes, the Lords took a 53-50 lead into the halftime break.
The third quarter was more evidence of a back-and-forth game, just on a smaller scale. Rather than each side trading off dominating quarters, they took advantage of their possessions and only two points separated the teams in the third, in Fleming's favour to make it 77-76 for the visitors.
Durham did what they needed to do in the fourth to hold their lead and extend it into a multi-possession affair. With a 110-101 win, that would be the first time this season that both teams hit triple-digits and men's basketball, and 110 sits as the second most points scored by any team in a single game since the regular season begun.
Angelo Sarsonas (Scarborough, ON), Adam Hosseini (Toronto, ON) and Glodi Kashala (Brampton, ON) all registered season-high points in the game, with 32 points for Sarsonas, 29 for Hosseini and 14 for Kashala.
The Lords outmuscled the Knights in the paint, with 42 total rebounds to 26. Oshane Taylor-Douglas (Scarborough, ON) led the team with eight, while Hosseini grabbed seven boards. The trio of Kashala, Kanskie Simon (Pickering, ON) and Latrell Olumofe (Whitby, ON) all grabbed five each.
Fioti Mabanza (Whitby, ON) went 4-for-6 off the bench with eight points, four rebounds and a steal.
Last night was the first time the Lords hit triple-digits in a regular season competition since defeating the La Cité Coyotes 103-81 on February 16, 2019. 110 is the most since beating the Loyalist Lancers 113-107 in OT on November 10, 2017 and the most in regulation since topping Fleming 111-64 on November 3, 2017.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Lords as they're back at home to host the Lancers on Friday night.
OVERALL RECORD: 8-2
