OSHAWA, ON – In what was the final Durham College varsity home game of the 2022 calendar year, the Durham Lords men's basketball team won 109-89 against the La Cité Coyotes on Saturday night at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre.
Glodi Kashala (Brampton, ON) opened the scoring 31 seconds in with a layup and the Lords never lost that lead with zero lead changes. Durham would lead by as much as 21 points in the fourth quarter. But first, the Lords scored 30 points in the opening frame to take a seven-point lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter was relatively back-and-forth, with only one point separating the two sides, sending Durham into halftime with a 55-47 lead.
Coming out of the locker rooms, Durham continued to outscore the visitors in every quarter with 26 points in the third and 28 more in the final 10 minutes to enter triple-digit territory for the third time this season. The 20-point margin of victory would be their largest of the season to date.
Adam Hosseini (Toronto, ON) was the team leader in points with 40, a career-high for Hosseini. He also added six rebounds and an assist to the box score. Mark Stoop (Oshawa, ON) finished with a double-double, ending the game with 25 points and 15 rebounds, along with six assists, four blocks and three steals. Stoop was nearly undefendable in the eyes of the Coyotes, shooting 10-for-12 from the field, including going 1-for-1 from beyond the arc and 4-for-5 from the free throw line.
Oshane Taylor-Douglas (Scarborough, ON) was a major playmaker on the night with 10 assists in his 10 minutes played, while Isaiah Barton (Whitby, ON) was nearby with nine assists. Kashala and Fioti Mabanza (Whitby, ON) each registered double-digit points with 11 and 10, respectively.
