OSHAWA, ON – The Durham Lords men's volleyball team earned their first win of the 2022-23 OCAA season after defeating the Fleming Knights in three sets.
The first set was the closest, although the Lords squeaked by with a 26-24 victory. Durham rode that momentum into the second set, more than doubling their opponents score with a 25-12 win. Looking to sweep the Knights and pick up win number one on the season, Durham would do just that with a 25-21 third set win to take the match.
Kills were evenly spread out amongst the team, with Carter Reid (Oshawa, ON) and Nandor Gallo (Oshawa, ON) hitting seven each, Tyler Jegen (Calgary, AB) putting up six and William Egan (Cobden, ON) getting five. Egan and Gallo were at the top of the total attempts category with 19 each.
Kyle Travis (Courtice, ON) was the playmaker, assisting on 22 points for the Lords. Egan accounted for three of the teams' five aces in the match, with Jegen and Travis scoring the other two.
Jacques Tournadre (Milton, ON) recorded a team-high 10 digs. Defensively, Jegen and Michael Penney (Whitby, ON) each blocked two shots while Egan blocked one.
The Lords benefited from 19 service errors hit by the Knights on Thursday, in addition to 15 attack errors.
