OSHAWA, ON – The Durham Lords women's volleyball team stay undefeated after sweeping the Fleming Knights on Thursday evening.
Durham took the first two sets by commanding 25-12 and 25-10 victories. Fleming refused to go down without a fight, putting up 18 points in the third set but it was not enough as the Lords completed the sweep for the second time early on in the regular season.
Jessie Anatol (Ajax, ON) had a big match, registering eight kills on 12 total attempts. Jessica Joensen (Brooklin, ON) led the way in attempts with 15, recording six kills which matched the six from Katie Stewart (Gananoque, ON).
Madison Harvey (Ajax, ON) earned a trio of kills, while Tia Chang (Markham, ON), Samantha Payne (West Kelowna, BC), Amanda Larsen (Toronto, ON) picked up two each and Mia Hildebrandt (Winnipeg, MB) smashed one over the net.
Showing off their playmaking abilities, Jill Batsford (Kingston, ON) and Brooke Young (Chestermere, AB) posted 14 and 11 assists, respectively.
Joensen was a force from the serving line, hitting seven aces on the evening. Defensively, Payne blocked two shots while Chang, Larsen and Hildebrandt blocked one each.
The Lords are back at home on Saturday against the Canadore Panthers in a rematch of the 2022 bronze medal match.
