OSHAWA, ON – On Thursday evening, the Durham Lords women's volleyball team recorded another three-set sweep, this time over the visiting Loyalist Lancers in the OCAA Qualifiers.
All three sets ended in similar fashion, with the Lords defeating the Lancers 25-15, 25-16 and 25-18. Each time the Lancers battled back a little closer but could not slow down their undefeated opponent.
Mia Hildebrandt (Winnipeg, MB) was the offensive leader for the hosts, recording 14 kills, four blocked shots and three aces for a total of 21.0 points in the match.
Aislinn Pedersen (Hamilton, ON) and
Katie Stewart (Gananoque, ON) each registered six kills. In addition to Hildebrandt's four blocks, Stewart and
Amanda Larsen (Toronto, ON) each blocked one.
Assists were plentiful at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre (CRWC), with
Brooke Young (Chestermere, AB) and her 23 assists leading the way, followed by 12 from
Jill Batsford (Kingston, ON). Additionally, Jessica Anatol (Ajax, ON) was a force all over the court with 10 digs.
The Lords are back at the CRWC on Saturday afternoon in a crossover quarter-final as they will host either the St. Clair Saints or the Niagara Knights. Exact details will be released on Friday.
