OSHAWA, ON – The Durham Lords women's volleyball team secure their spot in the semi-finals at the 2022 OCAA Championship with a three-set sweep over the visiting Niagara Knights.
From the first set until the last serve it was all Durham, defeating the Knights in straight sets (25-12; 25-13; 25-18). Being a crossover playoff match, the two sides only met in the pre-season where Durham also swept Niagara at the St. Clair Invitational in November.
Brooke Young (Chestermere, AB) earned all 16 assists in the match for the Lords, with
Mia Hildebrandt (Winnipeg, MB) and
Jessie Anatol (Ajax, ON) leading the way in kills with eight and six respectively.
The Lords took a lot of points through the serves, with six players serving aces for a team total of 10, while the Knights tallied 12 serving errors.
Hildebrandt and
Amanda Larsen (Toronto, ON) were a must-watch presence at the net with nine blocks for Hildebrandt and seven recorded by Larsen.
Durham were also all over the court with five players registering four or more digs, with
Aislinn Pedersen (Hamilton, ON) grabbing eight; Anatol,
Devyn Fraser (Uxbridge, ON) and
Katie Stewart (Gananoque, ON) picking up five and Young tallying one.
The Lords join the Canadore Panthers in the final four, as they both await two more participants with the Mohawk Mountaineers hosting the Algonquin Wolves and the Humber Hawks hosting the Seneca Sting later in the day.
Further details on the semi-final match will be released soon.
