OSHAWA, ON – The Durham Lords are proud to recognize 65 student-athletes for their academic achievements in the 2021-22 year.
The Bert Dejeet Memorial Award is an annual honour earned by a female and male student-athlete for having the top overall GPA among all their athletic peers at Durham College.
Lleyton Williams (Men's Soccer) from the Pre-Service Firefighting program took home the award among the men, as well as
Devyn Fraser (Women's Volleyball & Golf) from the Interactive Media Design and
Cierra Matthews (Women's Rugby) from the 911 Emergency & Call Centre Communications program among the women.
Furthermore, four student-athletes received CCAA Academic All-Canadian Awards, namely
Devyn Fraser,
Mia Hildebrandt,
Katie Stewart and
Brooke Young. The award is the CCAA's most prestigious student-athlete award, epitomizing their mandate of recognizing excellence in academics and athletics. To achieve this honour, a student-athlete must be named to their respective conference all-star teams in a CCAA sport and achieve honours standing.
Every year Durham College recognizes the team with the highest overall GPA collectively among all the teams' players. The women's volleyball team was named with that honour on Wednesday afternoon. Since being first awarded seven years ago, this is the fourth time that the women's volleyball team has won the Top Team GPA award, with the first three coming in 2016-17, 2018-19 and 2019-20.
