OSHAWA, ON – The 2022 OCAA men's rugby season kicked off at Thompson Rugby Park on Saturday as the Durham Lords shutout the visiting St. Lawrence Surge 50-0.
Durham scored early and often, starting with a try from
Patrick Lynch (Oshawa, ON) and a conversion kicked by
Tyler Janes (Pickering, ON) to make it 7-0.
Adding another four tries before the half, the Lords went into the break up 31-0 after 40 minutes of play.
The second half was more of the same as the Lords extended their lead to 38 early in the second half, eventually hitting the half-century mark and sending the visitors on a bus ride home without a point.
Lynch led the way for the Lords with two tries scored, while Janes,
Brendyn Beck (Port Hope, ON),
Josh Dusome (Oshawa, ON),
Alexander Lee (Pickering, ON), Jackson MacIntosh (Brooklin, ON) and
Mackenzie Rowley (Ajax, ON) each scored one try.
Janes also successfully kicked five conversions in the match, adding another 10 points to Durham's total.
The Lords are back in action next Friday on September 23 at 4:30 PM in Toronto as Durham will make a visit to the Humber Hawks in a rematch of the 2021 OCAA bronze medal match.
Thompson Rugby Park will host Durham's second and final home match of the season on Saturday, October 8 at 1:00 PM against Seneca.
