BELLEVILLE, ON – Returning to the court for the winter semester, the #3 nationally ranked Durham Lords picked up where they left off with a 95-84 win over the Loyalist Lancers.
Durham jumped ahead early with a 24-point quarter that saw seven different Lords score in the opening frame. The Lords were outscored in the second quarter, but ultimately took a tightly contested 43-42 lead into halftime.
The third quarter would be the story of the evening, with Durham scoring 29 points coming out of the halftime break. Angelo Sarsonas (Scarborough, ON) was on fire shooting 5-for-6 in the quarter, in which he played all 10 minutes. Durham would lead by as much as 17 points in the fourth quarter. The hosts battled back toward the end, but Durham refused to let the lead slip away to win by double-digits for the second time this season.
Sarsonas posted a season-high 33 points, surpassing 30 points for the second time this season. Adam Hosseini (Toronto, ON) did not trail far behind with 28 points.
In the paint, Mark Stoop (Oshawa, ON) led the way with 16 rebounds, seven offensive and nine defensive. Sarsonas and Glodi Kashala (Brampton, ON) each grabbed seven boards on the night.
In honour of Keeth Tennant, the Lords wore #33 patches on their jerseys for the first time in regular season action and will continue to do so for the remainder of the season. The Lancers began the night with a 33-second moment of silence.
Durham will hit the court again on Tuesday with a trip to North York to face the Seneca Sting.
