#3 Lords suffer first loss since October

NORTH YORK, ON – The Durham Lords men's basketball team fall to 9-2 on the season after an 83-76 loss on the road to the Seneca Sting.

Seneca jumped ahead early to a 9-2 lead in the first half of the opening quarter, but a 13-9 run in Durham's favour to end the frame put the Lords behind by only three going into the second. Fioti Mabanza (Whitby, ON) helped carry the team back into the game with six points and four rebounds in six minutes of action.

Durham fell further behind in the second quarter, having been outscored 22-17 to go into halftime trailing 40-32. The Lords kept it close in the third quarter, although the Sting extended their lead by another point through three quarters.

The fourth quarter was the highest scoring at both ends of the court. The Lords scored a game-high 28 points, 11 more than their next highest quarter. Angelo Sarsonas (Scarborough, ON) went into the fourth quarter with only three points on the statistics sheet but posted another 14 points in the final quarter. Despite this offensive breakthrough, Seneca also broke through themselves with 26 points in the quarter. The two-point margin was not enough for the Lords to piece together a comeback, falling by seven.

With 4:45 remaining in the game, a jump shot made by Adam Hosseini (Toronto, ON) did put the Lords within three points, but the Sting always had a response.

Durham was more dominant in the paint, out-rebounding the hosts 46-37. The difference for Seneca was depth, scoring 28 points off the bench.

Hosseini led the team in points with 18. Four Lords registered double-digit points, including Sarsonas with 17, Mabanza with 14 and Kanskie Simon (Pickering, ON) also with 14.

With 17 points scored, Sarsonas joined an exclusive group of players in the program's history at Durham College who have scored over 1,000 career points in the OCAA.

The Lords are back in action on Saturday with another trip to Toronto, this time to face the OCAA East-leading George Brown Huskies.
