TORONTO, ON – A Saturday evening battle between two nationally ranked men's basketball programs, the #3 Durham Lords and the #6 George Brown Huskies, saw the Lords meet their match in a 93-72 loss.
George Brown outscored the visitors in every quarter throughout the evening, beginning wtih a 23-20 first quarter before extending their lead to 45-36 at halftime.
In the third quarter, seven different Lords scored points on the field but the Huskies scored 24 of their own to extend their lead to 16-points through 30 minutes. In the fourth quarter, Fioti Mabanza (Whitby, ON) led the way with seven points but it wasn't enough to hold the Huskies off in a 93-72 loss.
Isaiah Barton (Whitby, ON) led the way in points with 15, one more than Mabanza who finished with 14. Two Lords recorded double-digit rebounds, including Mark Stoop (Oshawa, ON) with 13 and Kanskie Simon (Pickering, ON) with 12. Both players also led the team in blocked shots, Stoop blocking four and Simon turning away two.
In their first home game since the holidays, the Lords will hit the court at 8:00 PM this coming Tuesday against the visiting Georgian Grizzlies. Be in your seats early as the game will begin with a special ceremony for the late Keeth Tenannt and the Tennant family. Tennant memorial hoodies will also be sold for $40, credit or debit only, with all proceeds supporting the Tennant family.
Tuesday night will also feature Bell Let's Talk night for the men's and women's basketball teams.
