OSHAWA, ON – On an emotional night that began with a ceremony in memory of Keeth Tennant featuring his family at centre court, the Durham Lords men's basketball team won 95-92 in thrilling fashion against the Georgian Grizzlies.
For the Lords, it was their first home game since November 26th, and their first at home since the passing of their teammate. The Tennant family were presented with a framed jersey and then the game tipped-off in front of a packed house.
Durham went ahead early 7-2 in the first two minutes of play, eventually leading 29-28 through the first quarter. After shooting a perfect 5-for-5 for 12 points in the first quarter, Adam Hosseini (Toronto, ON) added another six points to bring his total to 18 at halftime – at which point the Lords led 52-45.
The third quarter was an evenly back-and-forth affair, with each side scoring 20 apiece. The Grizzlies roared to life again in the fourth quarter, scoring 27 points.
After leading by 10 with less than six minutes to go, the Grizzlies cut their deficit down to one with a layup to make the score 93-92. Taking advantage of intentional fouls, Glodi Kashala (Brampton, ON) went 1-for-2 from the line before Angelo Sarsonas (Scarborough, ON) did the same and put the Lords up by three.
Georgian missed on a three-point shot at the buzzer and the crowd were on their feet celebrating a 95-92 win for the home side.
Hosseini led the team in points with 26, also registering six rebounds, three assists and a trio of steals.
Kanskie Simon (Pickering, ON) had himself a big game, recording 16 points, eight rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block. Fioti Mabanza (Whitby, ON) was not far behind with 15 points.
