PETERBOROUGH, ON - Durham College women's rugby finish off the regular season with a 14-0 record after winning their final two matches on Sunday, marking their third consecutive undefeated regular season.
The Lords had on paper a competitive day ahead, playing the second place St. Lawrence Surge and the third place Algonquin Wolves. Kicking off the day against the Wolves, Durham led 22-0 going into halftime after seven minutes.
17 points in the second half topped the Lords up to 39, shutting out the Wolves 39-0. Emily Cooper (Guelph, ON) recorded two tries, while Maya Austin (Ajax, ON), Danika Johnston (Courtice, ON), Emma Nagy (Brooklin, ON), Camryn Wood (Uxbridge, ON) and Shantel Wray (Ajax, ON) each scored one. Sierra Persaud (Ajax, ON) successfully put two kicks through the goal posts.
In the second match, which was the final competition of the regular season, the Lords led the Surge 19-0 at halftime before outscoring St. Lawrence 17-5 in the second half for a 36-5 victory.
Cooper scored another two tries. With Hayden Venedam (Port Perry, ON), Ciara London (Oshawa, ON), Johnston and Nagy all adding one. Persaud was successful on another three kicks.
With 14 wins in as many games for 28 points, the Lords go into the 2023 OCAA Women's Rugby Championship as the #1 seed. Durham finished with 538 points for (38.4 per game) and 12 points against (0.8 per game).
The Championship is once again held at Loyalist College in Belleville on Saturday, October 28. The Lords have a bye through to the semifinal, where they will play the winner of the Loyalist vs. Humber quarterfinal.
