Big third quarter made the difference in 18-point victory

NORTH YORK, ON - The Durham College men's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season following a 68-50 road win against the Seneca Sting.

The Lords went on a 9-0 run in the first three and a half minutes to begin the game and set the tone early. Eight different Lords were on the scoresheet in the opening 10 minutes, putting the Lords up 21-11 through one quarter.

Seneca had a statement second quarter, outscoring the Lords by eight and taking advantage of eight free throw opportunities, scoring on six of them. This turn of the tides brought the game within two, sending the Lords into halftime up 30-28.

Another reversal of fortunes took place in the third quarter as a suffocating defensive gameplay from the Lords held Seneca to only five points, shooting 2-for-12 in the frame. Durham were difficult to guard, again proving that they have a number of scorers in the lineup with six different players scoring at least once in the quarter.

The Lords were able to pull away with a 16-point lead going into the fourth.

After playing out an even, back-and-fourth final quarter, the Lords were able to leave Seneca with an 18-point victory. The game only saw the lead change twice all night and the Lords held a lead as large as 22 in the final minute and a half of the game.

Oshane Taylor-Douglas (Scarborough, ON) was the leader on the night, scoring 15 points with three assists and a pair of rebounds.

Rudy Fakih (Toronto, ON) entered double-digit territory with 10 points in 12 minutes of play, also grabbing five boards - four of which were on the defensive end.

Kevin Hamlet (Scarborough, ON) finished the game with nine points and five rebounds, while Mark Stoop (Oshawa, ON) was a force in the paint with seven defensive rebounds.

Durham were careful with the ball, only turning over the ball five times to Seneca's 15, and scoring 23 points off of those turnovers. The Lords also had 25 points coming off of the bench and shot a combined 47.2% in the game.

The Lords head to George Brown College on Friday, November 3 for an 8:00 PM tip-off against the Huskies.
